Fool Me Once, Shame on You; Fool Me Twice Shame On Me

It is very hard for us to lift up our heads in confidence if we have been deceived.  We need to understand that we are engaged in a battle with the great deceiver.  He is smarter, has been around a whole lot longer, and can be very persuasive.  He can paint a rosy picture or a terrifying one.  He appeals to your fears and knows that your intelligence must come from the Holy Spirit, for without Him living in your life to give you discernment we are all potential prey to the liar and chief.  He is smart enough to not give away too much information just enough to hook you in and once you are there he determines that he can hold you because you feel too embarrassed about what you had come to believe.   There are 74,000,000 citizens of this great country who were fooled.  To understand where the original lies come from we have to go way back many years.  Many years ago Fox news announced that it was "Fair and Balanced".  It neglected to say...

Getting Our Bearings

These days it is difficult to know what is up and what is down.  For the past five years, America has been in the grip of a man who hated every human being on this planet.  He thought that he deserved recognition for all of the great things he did, like surviving at least three bankruptcies, destroying the image of the Republican Party (in the remainder of this article, I will call them the GOP).  He managed to take down anything good that anyone had done for our fellow man.  I am not going to speak to the physical acts of this individual but more to the dangerously, damaging attitudes that he fostered within the hearts of people who felt that they were already being mistreated.  It is too hard to fathom that in just that short time of aligning himself with some of the worse actors in politics on our planet, he took them all for a great big lie ride.  Sadly, even those people who were once calling themselves the moral majority now are having to deal w...

Remembering Momma

I was reminded a couple of days ago of the old movie, "I Remember Momma".  It was a tenderhearted and compelling story of a family of immigrants who came into America from Europe.  The Momma in the store was quite amazing in making her family feel protected and cared for.  She was extremely frugal nightly counting the money they had earned that day and them saying with a sigh, "I guess we won't need to go to the bank."  All of her and her husband's concerns about finances were held from her little family for she knew that it would cause great stress if they were aware of how miniscule their amount of money was. In one particularly good story within the story was when her little brother or little daughter needed to have their appendix removed.  She desperately wanted to be with this child and the hospital rules said that no one was to be on the wards except nurses, doctors and clean up people.  The mother devised a plan to see her child realizing that the...

Be Ye Kind

As a young woman, actually as a twelve year old girl, the first class I ever taught was for the 2 and 3 year olds class. The lessons taught were so simple.  Basically the titles were made up of three words.  The first one I recall was "Be Ye Kind".  Being kind is such a simple thing.  It takes little effort but repeatedly we see people act and behave as if they are the boss of the world. That reminds me of a story my younger sister told me.  One of her granddaughters questioned her authority over her mother.  My sister said that yes when her mom was little she did have the right to give her advice and even tell her to do things like make your bed, or pick up your room.  Then my sister added that now that her daughter was an adult so no longer told her what to do.  She endeavored as a good mom to allow her daughter to correct her own children.  The granddaughter who had made the inquiry looked crestfallen she sighed and said, "I thought you...

Being a Servant

Today would be my oldest brother's 73 birthday if he had lived.  He died at the age of 66.  My brother was and still is in some ways very important to me.  Richard taught me how to live in Christ.  I say that to explain that he and I both grew up in the same family.  He had an older sister, a younger sister and a little brother and sister.  All of our lives were lived in light of the church and its teachings.  I never heard my mother or father in anyway criticize the church.  They did not put out their concerns about things that came up because they had realized early on that being critical of things you believe in would not benefit their family. When my Dad became ill, Richard made a very strong effort to make sure that he and Dad had a good relationship.  Dad, prior to his illness, even went and helped Richard when he bought his property in Wimberley.  Richard had seen Dad build a house and he decided to do the same thing.  Dad...

Sitting In the Bleachers

I am horrified to learn that the Supreme Court has upheld Trumps travel ban.  You better fasten your seat belt because his next move will be rounding up other groups that he doesn’t like.  I have never posted about a vision that God showed me when Trump announced his run for the presidency.  I have shared it with a few people but it was so bizarre that I decided not to share it with the general public.  What I am about to say is very strange so I need to lay some background.  Firstly, I knew nothing at all about Donald Trump other than his name.  I don’t generally watch regular TV because it is not that interesting.  As a result I knew really nothing about  the man.  When he announced his run for President, I began to see spirits that looked like frogs coming from his mouth.  I did not understand what this could mean and the Holy Spirit said lying spirits.  The great deceiver filled this man with lies.  Over many years, I rare...

Longing for God's Holy Spirit

You are exactly on the right tract.  The Bible instructs us to pray in the Spirit to build ourselves up.  This means that God knows what we need and we do not.  The Holy Spirit however, does and as we allow ourselves to pray in the Spirit we are building ourselves up in our most holy faith.  You know after I taught that lesson, I was driving home and the Holy Spirit spoke into my spirit and said, "Praying in tongues is an act of faith."  Yes it doesn't make sense to us but as we pray in the Spirit we are exercising faith and allowing God to speak through us.  We may be praying for someone far away that we know nothing about but God does.  He has awakened me at night praying in the Spirit, interceding for some individual who needed God's help.  It is through the act of prayer that we invite God to work in our lives and in the lives of others.  The Lord would never give us a gift if there was not a purpose for it. God would neve...
