Longing for God's Holy Spirit

You are exactly on the right tract.  The Bible instructs us to pray in the Spirit to build ourselves up.  This means that God knows what we need and we do not.  The Holy Spirit however, does and as we allow ourselves to pray in the Spirit we are building ourselves up in our most holy faith.  You know after I taught that lesson, I was driving home and the Holy Spirit spoke into my spirit and said, "Praying in tongues is an act of faith."  Yes it doesn't make sense to us but as we pray in the Spirit we are exercising faith and allowing God to speak through us.  We may be praying for someone far away that we know nothing about but God does.  He has awakened me at night praying in the Spirit, interceding for some individual who needed God's help.  It is through the act of prayer that we invite God to work in our lives and in the lives of others.  The Lord would never give us a gift if there was not a purpose for it. God would never insert Himself into the life of another individual unless we invite Him through prayer.  Prayer reminds us of our dependence upon Him on a daily basis.  In all things with prayer and thanksgiving let your requests be known.  In my personal prayer life and for personal things, I rarely ask God for anything.  I simply love Him through my thoughts and prayers.  He knows what I need before I do.  He has been so good to me that I daily stand in awe of His blessings.  I am overwhelmed by the shear number of them. They fall like rain into my life.

In the church or worship service, speaking in tongues should be limited unless there is someone there who can interpret what is being said.  God has given me both gifts praise His Holy name, the ability to pray in the Spirit and the ability to interpret what was said.  I find that praying in the Spirit edifies me and helps me pray for others who need God's intervention in their lives. It is not selfish to want God to build you up.   You should not concern yourself with that. You and I could not face the enemy that we daily encounter without the inner strength that comes from the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives.  How can you minister to anyone else if you are barely surviving?  We need God's power to overcome the enemy.   Allow Him to use you as you yield to His grace and love.  God never leads us astray.  I can recommend a couple of books, if you have a kindle, you can order them through Amazon.

I couldn't preach, teach or do anything for God without the enablement of the Holy Spirit.  I depend on Him completely for everything.  I am so thankful God blessed me in this wonderful way.  It is a life that I would not trade for any other.  God desires that we all would be filled with His Spirit.

God has already given you the gift.  You need only exercise it.  Begin just praising God, thanking Him for who He is the awesome powerful God who looked down on man and wanted a love relationship with him.  I always tell the Lord that I stand amazed in His presence.  He is mighty, just and right.  All that He does is good.  Reading some of the Psalms as you begin your prayer time will help you to focus on who God is and how great He is.  Praise welcomes the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.  Most of our praying in the Spirit is really worshipping God as He deserves to be worshipped and loving Him as He deserves to be loved.  We do not have adequate words in our limited vocabularies to tell God how thankful we are for Him or how great He is or how much we love Him.  This is one thing I love about the Holy Spirit is that He makes up for my inadequacies.  He has the words to tell God how much I love Him.

The books are: The Holy Spirit: A Pentecostal Perspective by Anthony D. Palma and What the Bible Says about the Holy Spirit: Revised Edition by Stanley M. Horton.  These are both reputable men of God who love God and have served Him faithfully for many, many years.  You have to be careful reading some individuals material but these books can give you some incite into who the Holy Spirit is and what He means in the life of the believer. The Bible however, is always the best resource.  You can never go wrong reading it with a prayerful heart and a willingness to be obedient to God.  The Holy Spirit Himself will teach you.

I hope I have helped you with this very long letter.  I am so excited about your interest in more of God.  I will be praying for God to reveal Himself to you as He desires.

Love you, Sweet Sister in Christ,  May God bless you.
