The Power of Words
The other day one of my adult children told me that they could not handle another lecture. I thought about the situation they were in and wondered if perhaps I was using the wrong "words" all of the time. In an effort to direct them to a better outcome, I was sharing what a "good choice" would be. Over the years, my children have often sought out my advice. This time was no different.
However, in the early morning hours a scripture arose to the forefront of my thinking and I realized that I needed to think on it. The scripture is one that is most familiar to me and one that I have quoted and thought on often. Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. These are powerful words. God's Word is powerful. I thought to myself that I should use God's Word more often in what I say. Most people would probably tell you that I use God's Word too much in my conversation but as I meditated on the reality of the power of God's Word the more I realized that you can never use it too much. Our words often fall flat. They do not have the same authority or power that God's Word has.
To be able to pierce the hardness of heart, of opinion and belief that so binds the lives of those lost to God, we need something sharp, quick, living and powerful. God's Word is just that. With God's authority behind us, when we speak His Word things begin to happen. In this time in which we live, it pays to speak the Word of God. For it is the anointed Word which will break the yoke of sin and crush the bondage that holds people enslaved. May we recognize the power of the Word of our Lord and speak with boldness His Word. It is in this way that we can be the tool that God will use to set the captive free.
I do not apologize for God's Word. How thankful I am that Jesus Christ came into my life and set me free! He, the living Word, made flesh and dwelt among us and now lives within us. So if we must lecture, let us let our conversation be filled with God's powerful Word for it is this truth that will set us free and that my friend is putting truth first!
