It's All About Listening
It is a very windy day again in Central Texas. The wind could bring us the rain we still desperately need or it could be just hot and empty signifying nothing. We seem to have a lot of hot air blowing these days with people accustomed to sound bites there is a whole lot of hot and empty springing forth. Would that we could learn to be less about talking and more about listening. Listeners are hard to find. It seems that most people consider a conversation to be an act of allowing them to vent on the subjects they find important without the boredom of having to listen to the poor individual they are venting too. The bags of hot air walk about and spew their anger and maliciousness to all they say and listen to no one. How can truth ever win out under such circumstances? How can we ever learn to think differently? It can seem impossible to most of us. We stand amazed at the condition of our world, the bullying of one another or humiliating of one another. When did we cease to live by the golden rule which said "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." It wasn't a suggestion it was a command. Jesus brought it up over and over again. "As you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto Me." My what a sobering thought. It makes my insides shutter as I think of the profound responsibility and unbelievable level of love that God has call us to. It is not our place to judge the rightness or wrongness of a persons life. We follow the rule of law, however flawed and biased, that has been established as God has commanded but the real Judge of all the earth is who you and I will answer to and He has His own rules and laws and they are all wrapped in one package: Unconditional Love. No matter how much we talk about what is right or wrong Truth, God's Truth will always prevail. That is what we are looking for and we should settle for nothing less.
