The Power of Words

The other day one of my adult children told me that they could not handle another lecture.  I thought about the situation they were in and wondered if perhaps I was using the wrong "words" all of the time.  In an effort to direct them to a better outcome, I was sharing what a "good choice" would be.  Over the years, my children have often sought out my advice.  This time was no different.  However, in the early morning hours a scripture arose to the forefront of my thinking and I realized that I needed to think on it.  The scripture is one that is most familiar to me and one that I have quoted and thought on often.  Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) 12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.   These are powerful words.  God's Word is powerful.  I...

Invisible

Sometimes if we are overly sensitive to the opinions or actions of others, we can begin to think that we are really of little value.  This is one of the biggest tricks of the enemy of our soul to make us feel useless  and of no consequence.  Our senses need to discern this trick and recognize it for what it is.  Firstly, our own sense of self-importance has to be put under the blood of Christ as we recognize our relationship with Him and what He thinks about us is the most important thing in our lives.  How sad it would be to feel that you are invisible to those around you!  I remember when my mother became older she would get her feelings hurt because my two sisters and I would gather around the table at a family gathering and chatter away.  The sisters and I seldom saw one another and found the opportunity to share our time together as a chance to catch up.  We did not really realize how Mom felt but she was always welcome yet she chose to si...

You Are Never Alone

I am so thankful today for an opportunity to once again talk about the greatness of my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ!  How blessed I am to have met Him so early in my life!  I was only five years old when Jesus swept away the sin in my heart and took up residence there.  I have never once considered evicting Him.  In fact, long ago I made Him my Lord and He is the one who has the say over what I think and do!  What a privilege to be able to turn over all of my concerns to one who loves and cares for me as He does. Life is not always easy.  There are many obstacles that arise before us attempting to impede our way or to just delay what God has in store for us.  We must press on no matter what happens and allow the Lord to do His work in our lives.  What we may see as a looming obstruction, God sees as a stepping stone to something better for us.  It is hard during those times to just keep walking but we must if we hope to get where God wants...

About Religion

There seems to be a great deal of confusion about religion.  Religions came into being long before God picked the children of Israel to be His chosen people.  Religion started at the Tower of Babel.  Mankind is born with a need to worship and this need will select almost anything to be fulfilled.  Celebrity today, is the primary avenue that man chooses to direct his worship.  Sports is also high on the list perhaps higher than celebrity.   God did not come to create a religion.  He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to restore a broken relationship.  It is all about relationship.  God wanted to once again have a relationship with the mankind that He had created.  The only way that was going to happen was for the sin problem to be dealt with.  Mankind's relationship was lost with God when sin entered the picture.  Unbelief in what God told Adam and Eve to do with respect to the tree in the garden whose fruit was not to be eaten led E...

Our Extremist Court

I am so upset today that our Supreme Court, poorly named I must say, should be our extremist court has once again decided to do away with the rights of individuals and side with corporations.  I do not in any way believe in abortion but I think it is most unfair to thrust my beliefs upon others especially those who are unfortunate enough to work for me.  I will not be shopping at Hobby Lobby anymore and I would encourage all of those who love crafts to look elsewhere for a supplier.  What has happened to the rights of individuals?  It seems that we are being drug into a monotheistic government and for myself I think that is a dangerous path.  Whose god are we going to be serving: the true and living God or some other god devised by man?  As Stephen Prothero wrote in his book, "God is not ONE", we are heading down a slippery slope if we think that the god of the Mormons is the same God of Christians or that the Allah of Islam is the same god of the Buddhist...

If You Go God, then I Am With You.

I am weary in my body today.  This earth suit I wear around that keeps me on this planet is groaning for rest.  I know that there is still much to do.  It is so hard to not get upset about the "small stuff".  The enemy of our eternal soul would have the pot stirred until that is all that we see.  A committee at the church I attend drafted a set of very innocuous but biblically sound beliefs so that individuals who want to come to the church would know where we are coming from.  It seems that one of our members was greatly offended by this.  I find it hard to believe that someone could come to church week after week, sing the praises of God and yet not even believe in Him or in the Word that He has given us.  If we don't stand for something, we will fall for anything.  I fear that many people sitting on our pews today are doing just that, sitting.  They come for whatever reason, out of duty, maybe to meet friends or family or to have s...
